Description

Snake initially did his secret photo shoots of the B&B Corp on-site** (versus the in-game white room). Though in the process, he quickly discovered that his days as an on-location photographer were numbered. Even his 'models' were pushed to the brink during his quest for the perfect shot.

**(This is, of course, a complete fabrication for your enjoyment)

On a more serious note, this image began life as a simple materials test with a modeled green screen backdrop, but after finding some unused models on the ol' platter, you can see where things quickly snowballed.
After a rather tedious texture map extravaganza (the original building model just came with textures and no detail maps), and starting over on Laughing Octopus's gloves from scratch, I ended up rigging her a bit different, including those PITA bendy plug cords on her feet, and tweaked her weight maps once again. Snake's hair took about 28 trial revisions to get just right, as after watching the cutscenes in MGS4, I've come to discover that Konami tricked me with some brilliant map and shader trickery; Old Snake's hair is more of a straw color rather than grey.

Anyway, the building set is not particularly well-suited to close up shots at the moment, but with another round of texture work and some fixes (i.e., the war look) it should be amazing!
Only post was text and Snake's smoke; all else done in-render ;-)

Add: After having a good look at this, I discovered I ran the wrong OctoCamo normal maps for Snake. I thought it looked a little flat, and I was right! Fixed for the next one. Sigh...
